This year Federation Cup has reached the semi-final stage, with four Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) teams – Enyimba of Aba, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Warri Wolves and Akwa United – trading tackles in two different stadia. The final will be staged in Lagos, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on the 15th of September 2013.
Enyimba 1-0 Lobi
Six-time Nigeria champions Enyimba International, were able to make it through to the final of this year’s Federation Cup on Wednesday, when they knocked out Lobi Stars of Makurdi by a lone goal, at the Samson Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
A 59th minute strike from Super Eagles player Ifeanyi Ede, from Bright Essieme’s assist, was Enyimba’s match winner and ensured the Aba Warriors booked a place in the 2013 Federation Cup final.
Warri Wolves 2-1 Akwa United
The second semi-final between Akwa United and Warri Wolves, was discontinued in the 78th minute, due to heavy rain after a one-all draw yesterday in Bauchi.
Akwa United took the lead in the last 20 minutes of the game after a barren first half through Ukeme Davies, before Oghenekaro Etebo levelled up for Wolves.
The game continued on Thursday evening, with both teams ready to play for the remaining 12 minutes. The Sea Siders defeated Akwa United courtesy of a well taken spot kick converted by Atuluwa Gift, after Oghenekaro Etebo was brought down by Gwoza Iolem in the box. Game ended 2-1 and Wolves made it through to the final.
