Will the events of Week 1 point us in the right direction (Ligue 1 Preview)

I can not remember ever having to write anything about the French Championnat, maybe on my European round up at some point last season, even then I made a wrong prediction on the destination of the league title in the romance nation. Now, i find myself intrigued with the happenings in Ligue 1, Ligue 1 is becoming very interesting; the league contest last season went to the wire with Montpellier finally winning their first ever French League title.
The transfer spending of Oil Rich Paris Saint Germain and their emergence as a financial free spending power house on the European transfer scene will definitely increase interest in the French league. We take a look at the season as a whole, bearing in mind the first set of games already have been won,lost and drawn. We take a look at the usual suspects as well as the likely also rans, the relegation candidates and the players set to light up the French Championnat.

The Title Contenders

Montpellier against all odds ended last season as Champions of France for the first time in their history, they played some good football along the way whilst building their title challenge on a strong defensive base conceeding the least goals in Ligue 1 last season (only Toulouse conceded the same amount of goals 34). They may have lost their top scorer, Oliver Giroud to Arsenal
