Tottenham’s Eriksen injured on international duty

Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen is likely to be out for a number of weeks after sustaining an ankle injury while playing for Denmark on Friday,ESPN has reported.

Eriksen reportedly suffered some ankle ligament damage following a challenge in the first half of Denmark’s 2-1 friendly victory over Scandinavian rivals Norway. He will now undergo scans to discover the extent of the injury, but Denmark boss Morten Olsen fears that he could be out for an extended period. He said: “We don’t know if he’s out for four or six weeks or how long it will take. It’s bad for him at a new club.”

The 21-year-old has found himself in and out of the Tottenham starting XI in recent weeks, with most of his starts coming in the Europa League, with Lewis Holtby preferred in the role behind the lone striker in the Premier League, before the defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Overall, since arriving for £12.5m from Ajax in late August, Eriksen has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
