NPFL Week 30 Review: Enyimba win big at home, Akwa United, Dolphin FC and Elkanemi Warriors draw

rmqeecv_3Matchday 30 of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), witnessed 10 games, as one of the matches was inconclusive due to violence in Akure. There were three draws and seven wins and a total number of 16 goals were scored. Ifeanyi Ede of Enyimba was the only player who got a brace and Namo of Nasarawa United, who now tops the NPFL scorers chart with 13 goals, also got on the score sheet.


ABS FC 0-0 El-Kanemi Warriors
Bukola Saraki Boys continued with their not-too-encouraging performances at home over the weekend, as they failed to record a victory over Elkanemi Warriors. The Borno-based side forced the homers to a goaless draw and returned to base with a deserved point, which brightens their chances of contending for the league title. Elkanemi are 4th on the log with 48 points, while ABS FC are wallowing in the drop zone, as they placed 17th.

Nembe City 0-0 Dolphins FC
The Pride of Rivers frustrated Nembe City at home, leaving with one point, after a goalless draw. It’s been long since Stanley Eguma’s side got a point on the road. They now maintain the 10th position on the league standings. The hosts have dropped to the 15th position, following this stalemate with 39 points from 30 games.

Sharks FC 1-1 Akwa United
The Promise Keepers kept their promises, after the State Government paid 30% of their sign-on fees in the penultimate week. Since then, they have had a run of good results. Sharks FC have not lost nor drawn any game at home, but they were forced by Justin Tenger’s side to a one-all draw on Sunday, at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt. Both teams have played 30 league games, but the Blue Angels are leading the visitors with a point, while they maintain the 10th spot with 40 points.

Nasarawa United 2-1 Kano Pillars
League Champions Kano Pillars continued their poor run of away from from on Sunday, as relegation threatened Nasarawa United beat them 2-1 at the Lafia Township Ship stadium. The Sai Masu Gida still holds the top spot on the table with two points above Enyimba and Bayelsa United who are second and third respectively. The Solid Miners moved out the basement with 39 points. They are now six steps down to the drop.

Heartland 1-0 Bayelsa United
The Naze Millionaires’ seem to have found their magic formula, as they have won their last three games. Eddy Ongolo‚Äôs effort made the difference, with the goal that separated the two sides, clinching a vital 1-0 win over Bayelsa United on Sunday at the Dan Ayiam Stadium in Owerri. They moved to 8th position on the log, with 43 points from 30 league matches.

Rangers 1-0 Wikki Tourists
The Flying Antelopes’ struggled against the Tourists, who they narrowly edged out 1-0 on Sunday, with Chinedu Sunday getting the match winner in the 20th minute at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu. Rangers now have 45 points from 30 matches.

Enyimba 3-0 Lobi Stars
Six-time league champions proved their worth on Sunday, by sending Lobi Stars to the cleaners, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory. Enyimba were in control of the game from start to finish and deserved all the points. Super Eagles striker Ifeanyi Ede got a brace, while league veteran Victor Ezeji registered his name on the score-sheet. Enyimba are second on the table with 49 points.

Warri Wolves 1-0 Gombe United
The Sea Siders wouldn’t have defeated the Savannah Scorpions, if not for Super Eagles striker Oghenekaro Etebor, whose 65th minute effort guaranteed the hosts maximum points, as Warri Wolves sneaked past Gombe with a 1-0 victory on Sunday at the Warri City Stadium. Wolves now have 45 points and are in 5th place on the 20-team league.

Kaduna United 2-0 Kwara United
The Crocodiles ensured they stopped the Afonja Warriors from doing any damage to them, as the Warriors are capable of pulling suprises. A 79-minute goal mouth scramble, saw Linus Adams tuck away the opener, before Emeka Akueme made the points certain. The hosts now hold a 90% home record.
