NPFL Week 26 Review

The 2012/2013 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 26, produced 19 goals from 10 games. There were two draws and eight home wins. Two players – Ichull Lordson of ABS FC and Christian Josiah of Sunshine Stars – got a brace each. Enyimba International FC now top the league, with a superior goal margin after a 1-0 win over Kaduna United in Aba. They have 42 points, the same number with Kano Pillars who are second on the log.

 

ABS FC 2-2 Wikki Tourists
It was indeed a battle of who goes down to the lower cadre of the Nigeria League, as the two teams gave good account of themselves. The Tourists opened scoring in the 18th minute of the game through Tunde Aremu, the first half ended with the visitors taking the lead.

Second half resumed with the home team dominating the game. Their efforts paid off in the 83rd minute, when Ichull Lordson levelled up for ABS FC. Shuaibu Ibrahim put the Tourists ahead again two minutes after Ichull strike, before ABS top scorer Ichull Lordson completed his brace, to rescue the hosts from another home defeat. Both teams maintain the 17th and 18th spots on the log, with same points but separated by goal difference.
Akwa United 1-1 El-Kanemi Warriors
Akwa United broke the deadlock as early as the 9th minute of the game through Ezekiel Mba. The visitors drew level in the 30th minute of the game, when Raphael Boumsong got the equaliser. The Warriors are now back in the top four, as they claimed the 4th spot with 41 points and Akwa United dropped to the 15 position.
3SC 2-0 Bayelsa United
Shooting Stars continue their quest of regaining their League status on Saturday, when they defeated Bayelsa United by two goals to nothing, courtesy of a header by Kingsley Eduwo in the 17th minute of play. Ighodaro Osagona scored the second goal of the with a great a header in 81st minute. Shooting Stars now maintain the 16th position with 33 points while Bayelsa United dropped to the third spot on the log with 42 points.
Nasarawa United 2-1 Kwara United
Goals from Victor Namo in the 19th minute via a spot kick and Habu Mohammed, was all that the Solid Miners needed to get all three points. However, Sidi Lawal got a consolation goal for the Afonja Warriors in the 80th minute of play. The home team ended their six match winless streak, but still remain in the relegation zone, while Kwara United dropped to 5th place on the log as they suffered their second defeat in their last six games.
Sunshine Stars 2-1 Kano Pillars
Kano Pillars continue their poor form on the road, as the Akure Gunners defeated them on Sunday and secured their third consecutive home win. Christian Josiah was the hero of the game, as he netted twice in the 21st and 36th minutes, while Shehu Adamu put one back for the visitors. Kano Pillars are now 2nd on the table with 42 points, while Sunshine Stars claimed the 8th position with 37 points.
Enyimba 1-0 Kaduna United
The Aba Warriors are back on top of the league table for the second time this season. A late strike by Ifeanyi Ede in the 81st minute made the difference, as Enyimba sweat through their nose before their efforts yielded the much needed points. It was a keenly contested game for the two teams, but a difficult one for the hosts. Enyimba captain fantastic, Chinedu Udoji, was exceptional in the heart of the defence for Enyimba, as he put up a decent performance to curtail the visitors moves. The homers are on top of league table with 42 points and an appreciable goal difference.
Nembe City 1-0 Warri Wolves
Tunde Adeboye’s strike in the 41st minute, was all that the Kalekulema Boys needed to grind out the three maximum points, as they defeated Warri Wolves on Sunday, at the Samson Siasia stadium. The game was characterized by so many fluffed chances. Wolves moved two places down to 6th spot while City claimed the 13th position.
Sharks 1-0 Lobi Stars
The Blue Angels have been a different team since the begining of the second stanza of the league. They are now unbeaten in five league games. Lobi Stars on the other hand, have lost four games out of their last six games. Odinga Odinga found the back of the net in the 83rd minute. Sharks FC are 11th on the table with 36 points, while the Evan Ogenyi tutored side dropped to the bottom of the table with 32 points.
Heartland 1-0 Dolphins
The Nazi Millionaires’ moved up to 14th spot, as they secured the three maximum points and registered their 11th win of the campaign. Bright Ejike’s 73th minute penalty kick was the major difference in the game. Dolphins FC suffered their third consecutive defeat and they slipped down to 10th position with 36 points from 26 games.
Enugu Rangers 1-0 Gombe United
Savannah Scorpions poor run of form away from home continues, as Maurice Cooreman’s side are yet to pick up points on the road this season. The Flying Antelopes’ new boy Christian Obiozor scored his first goal for the home team in the 61st minute, to help Okey Emordi’s side secure their 7th consecutive home win. Rangers moved up to 7th spot with 39 points, four points behind the the table toppers, while Gombe United dropped to 9th position with 37 points.
