NPFL Matchday 31 Review: Heartland and Sharks FC pick up away points, Enyimba and Kano Pillars game inconclusive

3SCNigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 31, witnessed yet another round of matches with stunning results, as Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt and Heartland Football Club of Owerri, returned to their camp with a decent away point each. League Champions, Kano Pillars and Enyimba International FC’s match was inconclusive, as the top-of-the clash game was abandoned in the 87th minute after Gambo Mohammed found the back of the net. 16 goals were scored and Abraham Peter of Lobi Stars was the only player that scored twice in Week 31, as the Makurdi-based side hammered Nembe City 3-0.


Kano Pillars 1-0 Enyimba
It was indeed a top-of-the table contest, as the Peoples’ Elephant and Sai Masu Gida slugged it out at the Sanni Abacha Stadium in Kano. The visitors held the hosts to a goalless affair all throughout the first 45 minutes before Gambo Mohammed broke the deadlock in the 87th minute, to send the home fans into an uncontrollable jubilation mood, which led to encroachment of the pitch, causing the duel to be inconclusive.

3SC 1 Sharks 1
Sharks added to 3SC’s relegation woes, as they held their hosts to a 1-1 draw in Ibadan on Wednesday. Fortune Omaniwa put the visitors ahead in the 44th minute with a wonderful half volley from the edge of the box, that beat Shooting goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande. The Blue Angels played the game for about 50 minutes with 10 men, after former 3SC player Gabriel Salami was red carded for an incident off Gbolahan Salami, who later found the back of the net for the equaliser in the 73rd minute via a spot kick.

Akwa 0 Heartland 0
The Naze Millionaires forced Akwa United to a barren draw on Wednesday at home. Heartland have gone four games unbeaten and maintained an appreciable position on the league table.

Wikki Tourists 1 Nasarawa 0
Bottom side Wikki Tourists of Bauchi beat Nasarawa United to move out of the relegation zone. Ibrahim Babale got the match winner in the 48th minute of the game, giving his team the maximum points. Wikki now have 39 points from 31 league games.

ABS 2 Sunshine Stars 1
Bukola Saraki Boys seem to have picked up form at the right time. They now have 41 points from 31 games and pushed up from the basement to a guaranteed position on the log. Seun Sogbesan put the home team in front in the 13th minute through a spot kick, before Thomas Zenke got the second in the 25th minute. Tunde Adeniji pulled one back for the Akure Gunners to console their teeming fans.

Bayelsa Utd 1 Rangers 0
The Restoration Boys had to wait for a 73rd penalty kick, which was converted by Salmon Junior, to defeat Enugu Rangers 1-0 on Wednesday. Bayelsa United now have 52 points from 31 games.

Lobi Stars 3 Nembe City 0
Forgive Gberindyer opened scoring in the 15th minutes, before Abraham Peter grabbed a brace in the 17th and 75th minutes, to ensure that the Benue Army got all maximum points on Wednesday at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium in Makurdi. The hosts now have 41 points, while the visitors had 39 points from same number of matches.

Dolphins 2 Wolves 1
Warri Wolves central defender Joseph Osadiaye put the the Sea Siders ahead in the 8th minute of play and it appeared that they are going to take way the maximum points, before Ifeanyi Egwim restored parity to the home side in the 21st minute. Dolphins captain Isiaka Olawale put the icing on the cake, as he netted the second goal of the day to give the Pride of Rivers the needed three points. The hosts now have 44 points, a point behind Warri Wolves who had picked 45 points prior to this fixture.

Gombe Utd 3 Kaduna 0
The Savannah Scorpions’ thrashed the Crocodiles’ 3-0 on Wednesday at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, as Lucky Edjebare, Babangida Ibrahim and Sani Mohammed scored one goal each in the space of 26 minutes, to earn the full points thereby keeping their 90 percent home record. Gombe United now have 46 points, 6 points behind the League Leaders Kano Pillars, while Kaduna United have 41 points from the same number of league games

El-Kanemi Warriors 1 Kwara Utd 0
A 20th minute strike from Hassan Hussein, was the major difference, as his goal separated the two sides as Elkanemi Warriors beat Kwara United to garner the full points on Wednesday at Elkanemi Stadium. Elkanemi are now third on the 20-team table with 51 points from 31 games.
