MATCH DAY 2 UCL TEAM OF THE WEEK

uefa_champions_leagueA Whole lot very of impressive performances were seen across Europe during the week and before we get to pick our team of the week, let’s give you a quick wrap from Wednesday night matches. Real Madrid CF, Paris Saint-Germain FC and FC Bayern München maintained their perfect group stage records with victories on Wednesday with PSG and Bayern racking up their second wins by triumphing 3-0 and 3-1 against SL Benfica and Manchester City FC respectively. Bayern continue to look imperious in their quest to becoming the first team to retain the UEFA Champions League trophy. They have pulled three points ahead of City and PFC CSKA Moskva, who came from behind to prevail 3-2 against FC Viktoria Plzeň. Laurent Blanc’s Ligue 1 title holders are now three points clear of Benfica and Olympiacos FC at the top of Group C. The Greek side also won 3-0, at RSC Anderlecht, thanks to a Kostas Mitroglou hat-trick. Real Madrid CF recorded the biggest victory of the evening at the Santiago Bernabéu when they defeated FC København 4-0. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are now four-points clear at the top of Group B following a dramatic conclusion in Turin where Juventus appeared to have turned defeat into a 2-1 win against Galatasaray AŞ, but Umut Bulut’s late leveller earned the Turkish outfit a point in Roberto Mancini’s first game in charge. Manchester United FC became the first English side to come away with a draw at the Donbass Arena when they held their hosts, FC Shakhtar Donetsk to a 1-1 all draw in a game that saw United midfielder Ryan Giggs passed passed Raúl González as the leading appearance maker in the UEFA Champions League when he came on the 66th minute for his 145th appearance – qualifying included. The 39-year-old former Welsh international made his first-team debut in March 1991 and his UEFA Champions League bow more than 20 years ago in September 1993. He has since gone on to lift the trophy twice, most notably in 1999 and was a used substitute in the 2008 showpiece when he scored the winning spot kick as United beat Chelsea FC in a penalty shoot-out. However, Manchester United and Shaktar Donetsk both lead the way in Group A though Bayer 04 Leverkusen is only a point behind in third. Sami Hyypiä’s side seemed set to draw 1-1 with Real Sociedad de Fútbol until Jens Hegeler struck in injury time.

Straight off to our Uefa Champions League Team of the Week. These are the best we can come up with from Match day 2 adopting a 4-3-3 formation. Do you agree?
