It is getting more and more interesting in Serie A; whilst in Germany, Spain, England and France; the title races are close to conclusion as early as February. The chase for the Scudetto keeps us going; a team from the South is making a legitimate claim to the title; putting paid to the chase in previous years from the capital and Milanese clubs; who have over the last six years have just huffed and puffed with nothing shaking the dominance of ”Old Lady”.
Juventus continue to be the big factor in Serie A; what better way to strike fear into top of the table; Napoli than to put 7 past Sassuolo; even though Sassuolo are not in any way a solid defensive side; conceding seven goals demonstrated how dominant the Turin club were. Milan has to be the stalemate capital of the Serie A; both teams have 14 draws between them with Inter only behind Torino on the most drawn games table. Inter Milan have drawn their last five league matches; that’s not champions league aspiration form; Milan on the other hand just drew for the first time in four matches after three straight victories, just when it seemed like the Gattuso momentum was building; Udinese threw a spanner into the Milan works; so it’s back to the drawing board for Gattuso and his team.
In the capital; it was mixed fortunes with Roma enjoying their trip away to Verona, but there were no home comforts for Lazio as Genoa got all three points to potentially change the scope of the top three; as Lazio’s next opponents are table topping Napoli with Inter having a chance to move into third place should they get a win at home to Bologna and Lazio drop points; still a lot more drama on the horizon.
At Fiorentina, something unique and interesting is happening; part of their front three include two ex players sons; Enrico Chiesa and Diego Simeone have blessed the world with two talented strikers that may just rule the world in the next five to ten years. Take a bow Federico Chiesa as you make it into our team of the week selection for the first time at the ripe age of twenty.
Here’s my Team of the week in a 4-3-3 formation:
