Halftimeng Serie A Team of Week 8 (2017/18)

Finally Juventus lost at home after an astonishing 41 matches without defeat at the Juventus Stadium, that is an incredibly long time to stay without defeat; but kudos to Lazio for stepping to the plate to get the better of the Old Lady. In the star match of the weekend; Inter take all the plaudits as they put paid to city rivals, AC Milan in a five goal thriller at the San Siro.

To my team of the week selection, a few tough choices needed to be made; here’s the summary of my selection in a 3-4-3 formation:

This week in goal is Thomas Strakosha as he helped Lazio pick all 3 points away to Juve by saving Dybala’s last minute penalty. The league leaders, Napoli had a solid display to pick all 3 points and keep a clean sheet away to Roma. This ensures their reliable centre back pairing of Kalidou Koulibaly and Raul Albiol joins Sassuolo’s Francesco Acerbi in defence.

In midfield, the derby man, Antonio Candreva played one of his best games for Inter and set up the first goal in the Derby Milano. Luis Alberto was at his link up best in helping Lazio end Juve’s 41 game unbeaten streak at home. Luca Rigoni made it count for Genoa away to Cagliari to ease the pressure of the manger Ivan Juric. Romulo completes the midfield quartet as he ensured Benevento remain pointless in Serie A after 8games.

Upfront, Mauro Icardi, triplete in the Derby Milano, say no more. Cyril Thereau and Ciro Immobile’s brace ensures they make the cut. Manager of the week has to be Simone Inzaghi for masterminding the end of Juventus’ 41 games unbeaten run at the Juventus Stadium.
