Halftimeng Serie A Team of Week 3 (2017/18)

Another Serie A week passes by with more questions than answers for the red side of Milan; for all the great signings and lack of, depending on which side of the Milan divide you belong to; Inter seem the more settled side despite their unusually quiet summer as against their more spendthrift neighbours. In all it was a weekend that belong to the team from the Capital; Lazio put up the performance of the weekend, not just against any side, but against a well equipped Milan side. The table after three games has an end of season look and feel to it especially in the top 4 places, be that as it may here is my team of the week in a 3-5-2 formation:

In Goal is Salvatore Sirigu who kept Torino in the game until they picked all points away to new boys Benevento with his experience and calmness between the sticks. My defensive Three is led by Milan Skriniar as he keeps improving match after match for Inter, hit the post with a screamer and was tidy at the back, he is joined by Davide Astori; who led his Fiorentina side to their first points this season and scoring one of the 5 goals away at Hellas Verona), completing the back three is Stefan De Vrij as he kept Milan’s muted attempts to score at bay but could do nothing about the goal conceded.

My Midfielders include Luis Alberto as Milan had no answer to his goal, pace and trickery, Senad Lulic joins the fray with his constant running and industry leading to two assists to help Immobile to his hat trick, joined by Ivan Perisic; who continues to make it clear to see why Mourinho wanted him so badly for his side; energy, pace, precision, capped by a sweet goal), Torino’s Iago Falque put up a typical disciplined display all through and a smart finish to gift Torino all three points at Benevento, Marco Benassi concludes the midfield five as the former Torino captain ran things in the middle for Fiorentina as they got maximum points away to Hellas Verona.

For the first time this season, my strikers selection doesn’t include either Andrea Belotti or Mauro Icardi; this week  it’s Ciro Immobile leading the line as the Italian hot shot was unplayable on the day and crowned his performance with a hat trick), he is joined by Marco Sau, the reliable Cagliari man with a typical performance and a goal to crown his efforts.

Manager of the week has to be Simone Inzaghi of Lazio for setting up his team to demolish Milan comfortably and with precision.
