Halftimeng NPFL Team of the Week: MD7

A weekend to forget it was for Sunshine Stars FC of Akure who lost scandalously in Jos to the league defending Champions, Plateau United; the least that’s said about the players fiasco on the Sunshine side the better.  A total of 20 goals were recorded at all match centres with some eye-catching displays from players who were snubbed by the Salisu Yusuf led technical crew of the home based players for the just concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco; interestingly no goal was scored by any away team this past weekend.

Top on the list of those players is Tosin Omoyele who had a fantastic outing with two goals and an assist in a game his team ran riots with five goals. Victor Mbaoma is another player who, many thought should have been in Morocco as he continued with his fine form in front of goal scoring his fourth in as many matches. Enyimba pair of Ifeanyi Anaemena and Isiaka Oladuntoye also make the cut for this week as they went to the farthest and most dreaded place in Nigeria (Maiduguri) to steal a point with their perfect plan to defend.

Gabriel Wassa, finally played his first game for his new club Akwa United after a lengthy injury lay off at Rivers United. He was, as usual, at his best joining the attack of his team from his left back position and assisting in the first goal of the game via his pinpoint cross. Destiny Ashadi also makes my team of the week as he was chief-distributor in midfield for Katsina United’s big win with his sublime passes setting up the two goals of his team. Chinedu Udoji was captain fantastic for Kano Pillars’ win over MFM FC.
In a 3-4-3 formation, I have:
Goalkeeper:
Fatau Dauda (Enyimba Int’l) made a crucial save in the 78th minute of the match.
Defenders:
Ifeanyi Anaemena and Isiaka Oladuntoye (Enyimba Int’l) were rock solid in the centre of defence. Chinedu Udoji (Kano Pillars) made good use of his experience in defence.
Midifield:
Gabriel Wassa (Akwa United), Christian Madu (Rangers Int’l) thwarted all the creativities of Abia Warriors’ midfield play. Sunday Ngbede (Plateau United) scored and also gave an assist. Destiny Ashadi (Katsina United).
AttackTosin Omoyele (Plateau United), Victor Mbaoma (Akwa United), Junior Lokosa (Kano Pillars) continued his goal scoring form as he netted from the spot to take his tally for the season to seven goals in seven matches.
