The Globacom Nigeria Professional Football League (GNPFL), continues on Sunday, 22nd of September with Matchday 33. Ten matches will be played simultaneously across various match centres, Kano Pillars start their “Home-away-from-home” punishment this matchday 33 for recurring crowd disturbance.
A number of notable games will be played this weekend, as Bayelsa United engage Enyimba International in a a top-of-the table clash, struggling Shooting Stars will be welcoming Enugu Rangers at home in a rivalry for the ages, former Sunshine Stars gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote returns to Akure for the first since he left the Ondo-base team, he will be leading Sharks Fc to trade tackles with his former club.
Bayelsa United v Enyimba International
The first encounter between these two clubs on Matchday 13 ended 2-0, as Enyimba defeated the Restoration Boys in Aba. Both teams are currently topping the league standings with 52 points each but seperated on goals difference, the Peoples’ Elephant maintained the number one position on the log while Bayelsa United are placed on the second spot. It’s going to be a tough match for Ladan Bosso’s Boys because the visitors are capable of stunning the home team especially as they are full of confidence from winning the Federation Cup.
Shooting Stars v Enugu Rangers
The old rivals will take center stage on Sunday at the Adamasigba Stadium in Ibadan as the two sides battle for maximum points. Basement side, 3SC were defeated 2-0 in the reverse fixture when they conceded two goals in the latter stages of the game in Enugu at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium. 3SC look the more likely side to win this game especially after grabbing an away draw in mid week.
Dolphins vs Kwara United F.C.
The Pride of Rivers muscled out a point when they first met Kwara United this season, Yahaya Adamu put the host ahead before Fred Okwara drew level for the the visitors. Dolphins are in 12th spot on the 20-team table with 44 points, a decent result will push them up to 6th place with other results going their way; however Kwara United are renowned for their ability to grab points away from home, so the game is not a foregone conclusion.
Kano Pillars v Warri Wolves
League champions, Kano Pillars will be playing away from home on Sunday, this is as a result of the crowd trouble that ensued in their last home game against Enyimba in Kano. The Sai Masu Gida will be welcoming Warri Wolves at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. The Sea Siders beat Kano Pillars 2-1 in the first leg in Warri, so expect Pillar to be looking for revenge.
Sunshine Stars v Sharks Fc
The Blue Angels narrowly escaped defeat in the first encounter when Chibu Osigwe effort seperated the two sides and earned Sharks the maximum points. Sharks Fc head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote is hoping that his team will put up a brilliant performance on Sunday when they face his former club, Sunshine Stars at Akure Township Stadium. Sunshine Stars have a good home record, but Sharks have been on the up lately and will look to dent their opponents sound home form.
ABS F.C. v Heartland
Bukola Saraki Boys will welcome Heartland Fc in this weekend’s GPFL Matchday 33 tie at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin. The Naze Millionaires were Victors in their first meeting when they beat ABS Fc by a lone goal, courtesy of a strike from Amarachi Ukaegbu. The host are placed on the 18th spot with 41 points from a possible 96 while Heartland Fc maintained the ninth position on the with 45 points.
El-Kanemi v Gombe United
Sani Gidado’s strike was all that the Savannah Scorpions needed in Week 13 to amass the maximum points at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. The Borno-team have not lost any game at home in recent times while Gombe United are yet to pick an away point. The host are placed in third spot on the league table with 51 points, a win in this game will push them to second or top place on the log depending on the results of teams above them.
Wikki Tourists v Nembe City
This match is indeed the battle for survival. Both teams are relegation bound, Nembe City are on 17th position on 42 points three points above the host Wikki Tourists who are placed on 19th spot. Kala Ekulema Boys defeated the Tourists in the reverse leg 2-1.
Lobi Stars v Kaduna United
Lobi Stars were beaten in the first encounter when Ali Adamu strike made the difference in that game as the Crocodiles got the three points on offer. The Benue Army are currently on 16th position, they have lost two games at home and drew two at home, Kaduna United on other hand have not won nor drawn any game on the road this season. A win for Evans Ogenyi Boys will brighten their chances of avoiding the drop to the lower division.
Akwa United v Nasarawa United
The Promise Keepers recorded a point in Matchday 13 when they met as they held the Solid Miners to a goalless situation at the Lafia Township Stadium. Both teams are on same number of points, but Akwa United are placed in 14th while the visitors are on the 15th position they are separated by a single goal margin.
