It all began with a loud, glitzy and glamorous opening ceremony in the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo. The focus at the opening ceremony was on the “three treasures of Brazil” – nature, people and football, the “true Brazilian art form.”

MATCH DAY 1

Brazil stumbled early on, but came back to overpower rival Croatia in the group A preliminary round match in Sao Paulo at the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2014.

Neymar scored twice and Oscar added a third on Thursday as Brazil ran out 3-1 winners in the first match of the 2014 World Cup. The hosts struggled early against a lively Croatian side, but late-game quality and some kind refereeing ensured the Brazilians didn’t disappoint in front of their home crowd.

Not a convincing display by the hosts but they sure look like a team that can improve as the competition progresses.
